NOTE: I have received reports that this game does not load on Mac browsers. The downloadable files are Windows only, so if you are a Mac user please save yourself the time and skip this game. Apparently this is a known issue with Godot 4.0 web exports.

NOTE2: Since downloads don't work on HTML game pages, please go here if you prefer to download the game and play on desktop. The link contains both the original game jam version as well as the most up-to-date version of the game.

Controls: arrows or wasd to move

[i] or [Esc] to access menu/inventory screen or to exit that screen.

Any time a number or letter appears on screen in brackets such as [1], that means that pressing that key will do something. For instance, items in the inventory and cards during battle will have numbers associated with them that you can use.

Astral Path is my entry for the 7DRL Challenge 2023. It's my first time doing a game jam and I learned a lot. Unfortunately, I only found out about the game jam when there were fewer than 6 days remaining. I really could have used that extra day. I plan on releasing an updated version with the features that didn't quite make it into this build.

Game Summary:

You are a wizard specialising in one of four schools of magic: fire, wood, electricity, or water. Spells are represented as cards. Each card has its own element and a target element. You can theoretically play your whole hand every turn if you can chain your cards properly.

Defeating monsters and finding treasure increases your power. You can take a portal to a new world, but each time you do so the strength of the enemies will increase. Your goal is to beat a boss on each elemental world, unlocking the portal to the final world and boss.

Contest Stuff:

This game is turn-based.

Worlds, cards, encounters, and treasure are all random. Some probabilities are affected by the game state. For instance, your chosen element will skew the options you get when levelling up, although all options can still appear for all characters.

There are no saves, and there is no meta-progression. Every run starts the same, aside from your chosen element.

I was torn about marking this game as complete or not. The game has all the core systems in place, so it's mostly lacking in content. Since I didn't get much time to test it and I wanted to do more with it than I did, I said it was incomplete.

Download:

Go here to download the game. "AstralPath.zip" is the game jam version, while "AstralPath1.2.zip" is the most recent version.

DFuxa Plays Failed-7DRL 2023 - Astral Path

Very difficult and somewhat unbalanced, but fun. I managed to get a win by using void stones to get only 5 cards, then upgraded kindle thrice, and finally, I used the philosopher's stones to chain together Burn->Heal->Spark->Thorns->Kindle for an infinite.

That's impressive. I needed one more day to fix some balance issues. I didn't expect anyone to actually beat this game.

Seems like a complete game to me.  Good job.  A little difficult/unbalanced, but it's still got all the necessary parts and is sufficiently fun.
